Just a ‘child’? Regional Event, Sandy 24.03.12

by · March 27, 2012

It was with great excitement that we headed off to Sandy in Bedfordshire last Saturday for the next Just a ‘child’? Regional Equipping Event of our 2012 tour. The vision of the Just a ‘child’? Regional Equipping Events is to gather together those who work amongst children from across the denominations. We are passionate about supporting them in the ministry amongst children they are involved in, in their churches, within their neighbourhoods and as part of their communities. We want to not only equip them to share Jesus with the children they work amongst, but also explore how they can release children to tell others about God’s son.

We were superbly hosted for the day by the Baptist Church in the town, where it was a real privilege to spend the time with a group of individuals from a number of churches, some more local than others. During the breaks there was an opportunity to get to know one another and share thoughts, ideas and concerns about ministry amongst children. The three main sessions unpacked, in terms of evangelism amongst children, the following topics:

  • Children – within our reach.
  • Children – ready for release.
  • Children – growing as disciples.

One of the things that was so exciting was that the group consisted of those coming at children’s ministry from a variety of positions and roles. We had those who describe themselves as team members, we had paid children’s workers, we had team leaders and even a church minister. The thing that was exciting about the make up of the group though, was their desire to see children discover Jesus. My heart is that as the church we will recognise the opportunity, and I believe the responsibility, that is before us to tell children about Jesus. It was a long, but brilliant day, from which I hope much will follow in terms of the ministry of those who attended.

Some of the feedback already received from the day includes:

  • “It has helped me to see our ministry in a new way.”
  • “I have found the day relevant and helpful to our present day.”
  • “A stimulating day, well organised and run. I would commend the programme to all involved in Children’s Ministry!”
